Could you identify fingerprints on a wall with forensics?

It may sound very obvious and I probably sound stupid for asking, but if there was a crime scene and they were dusting for prints, could they find prints on a painted wall. Just a regular flat, painted wall. I thought that if there were ridges in it, then maybe the finger print would be obsolete or something because the ridges would damaged the original oils that come from your fingers that leave the prints.
I just need a straight answer, no links please.
Apologies, by ridges I mean like in the paint dripped and dried that way. If it had a shotty paint job (:
