My husband and son and I were at my in laws on Saturday for a Christmas party and I was talking to my father in law's sister who I've know for the past 9 years and I asked her how her Christmas was and she said it was fine and that her mom came over for a little while and I said, oh where does your mom live and she looked at me like I was such an idiot and then said, ummm a 1/2 block down the road... I felt like such a moron!! I have know that for all these years and all of a sudden my mind went blank and I felt like I had never met her before and didn't know who her mom was!! My next question was going to be, why haven't we ever met your mom? DUH... I mean her mom was just at my house a week and a half ago with my in laws and we see her on a pretty regular basis. It scared me so much to know that my mind went that out of whack. Have any of you ever done anything like that and do you think that can be normal from anxiety? It really made me worry.

Just my layperson's opinion but...it MAY be a part of anxiety but I certainly don't think it has to be. Any kind of absent-mindedness or preoccupation could leave you completely forgetting those "obvious" thing that are right at the front of your mind. In my experience, those of us who've had a brush with anxiety, etc., are constantly on the look-out for new symptoms and occurrences, and memory issues are certainly scary when they happen but they don't have to be a part of the anxiety issues. If you are preoccupied with your anxiety - or any issue really - its completely understandable to have a little brain freeze moment like that

Thanks for your reply. I agree with you that once we have had anxiety for a brief amount of time or an extended period, every little feeling, twinge, pain, etc., we immediately notice and question. It had been a stressful, but enjoyable couple of days and I'm sure that could've contributed to me being so absent minded. I hyper focus on everything and that doesn't help. Anyway, your response made me feel better, so thank you
