My left calf muscle has been hurting for months now. It feels like it's way too tight and hurts after I've been sitting, or even after walking up. If I'm walking for awhile it also starts hurting. so basically it's hurting pretty much all the time!

I have spine issues, spondy, stenosis, DDD, the usual stuff with nerves pinching, anyone out there have CALF pain from their back problem? I've had pain in the front of my legs, and in my toes which I know is nerves, but it's weird having it in my calf. If it were a pulled muscle, i would think it would be better by now --going on about 4 months I believe.
oh well, just thought I'd ask and see if there are any others who have had this, before I go to a doctor, (and what can he do anyway?)
thanks and best to all,
:)

Sad to say, pain in the calf is a common sign of some nerve impingement at L4-5. If you search for dermatome chart, you will see what part of the body is affected by each of the nerve roots in the spine. You will see that L4-5 runs down the outside of the top of the hip, to the thigh, into the calf, and down into the foot. It sounRAB like you have nerve impingement from stenosis, spondy, or both. I recently had a one level fusion for that very problem, and am healing nicely.

thanks for your reply. I was afraid of that, and L4-5 are where my problem is. sigh. I was hoping that it was something else that would just go away but sad to say these back issues don't get better, only worse in time.

Surgery is not an option for me, I'm sole support and my husband is ill and unable to work. So I have to sturable on as I am doing. Just wish there was something I could do to keep things from getting too bad --I need to work for 10 more years, YIKES.

Thanks for the info, and I am glad to read that you are doing so well after your surgery. That's always good to hear positive stories.

Have you looked into going on Medical Unemployment? I don't know if you are in the united states or canada but in canada we can go on Medical EI when we need to go off for surgery or illness? Just a thought??
I hope everything goes well for you. I know what you are going through as I am the sole earner in my family and I had to go off on Medical EI just last month as I just had a discectomy/lamonectomy at the L5-S1 level on June 3rd.
My thoughts are with you!

Celtic,
thanks for your reply. I'm in the US where things aren't quite as generous as other parts of the world.

No i haven't considered the medical leave as it would only be for short term and at about 60% of my already measly wage. I am currently looking to get a better paying job.

Also I worry, that i won't be well enough (or worse off if I did opt for surgery)to continue working and as my husband is finding out, getting permanent or long term disability is a long s-l-o-w dragged out process that usually takes years to get approved.

Your surgery went well I assume? It's still fairly early and I hope you feel better each day forward! take care,
