I am wondering if this (thing ) anxiety is genetic,as i remeraber my sister was a down! sort of person. my symptoms are as follows, if I have poor results from any Dr I immediately assume the worst ?I have an aversion to meeting any stranger (shy) Fear of the unknown is always with me.change in any way seems to throw me into ,(no I am alright as I am ) syndrome,I flew to America ,it needed a lot of persuasion I can tell you. What happened,I froze on the plane , with fear, by the time I returned to the Uk I had developed Shingles through the stress the Dr says. what am I to do , life seems very grim, I do not seem to be able to relax and laugh anymore, has anyone out there felt the same and what did you do,

I feel you there. I know my father also suffered from anxiety and self medicated through drinking. I don't want to take the same path as him so have tried my best to front up to my fears by steadily tking small steps into the unknown.

Moving to the US is huge and you should feel proud of yourself for doing that rather than looking at the negatives. This is not easy trust me I know. But you have to take the small things away with you to try and turn around your thought processes.

Best of luck

Hi there,

I think both anxiety and depression can be genetic. My Maternal grandmother suffered from anxiety and was on ativan or some other benzo from the day her husband died for close to 50 yrs-she lived to be 94. I suffer from anxiety and depression and both my brothers have anxiety. I also have 2 cousins from my mother's side of the family that have anxiety and major depression along with addictions to benzos and pain meRAB. It sure does seem to run in families.
Just my opinion.

Best wishes,

JB
