Whenever I run anything hard above a 400m, I always end up getting some kind of reaction after. Back in middle school when we had to run miles, I would always get some coughing afterwards, but it wasn't too bad at all. Last Saturday, I ran the fastest 400 I've ever. Afterwards, I got coughs that left my throat and chest feeling very achey. Usually, with all the past times, the coughing would subside in at the very latest the end of the day. However, I continued to cough all this week. Then I ran another 400 yesterday the same exact speed.
I was already feeling a little light headed before my race (and yes, I did eat and stay hydrated all day). Towards the end of my race and definitely after, my arms were tingling and starting to get a little numb. My chest felt like it was burning, and I was wheezing a little for breath. After a couple minutes went by, I calmed down a bit, and my arms weren't numb anymore. But my chest was still hurting, and I really had to force myself to stop the wheezing and try to get in deep, steady breaths. The coughing started up in a couple minutes after.
Now it's the next morning, and I'm still coughing and it's making my chest hurt.
Could this be exercise induced asthma? My sister has regular asthma, but I've never been tested for it...
