Could the General Lee(69 dodge charger) out run a cop car?

Of course everyone knows that its almost impossible to get away from the cops because they use radios to communicate with other cops to set traps or road blocks, but which car is faster, the General Lee or a 70's cop car? my friend said that the 70's cop car would be faster then the General Lee but he said that the 1977 Trans Am used in Smokey and the Bandit could out run the 70's cop car. would the Trans Am(Bandit) be better or the General Lee? Oh and could either car out run a newer Crown Victoria cop car like the ones in The Dukes of Hazzard movie. I really need some info cause im tired of debating with my friend.
 
sure it may out run one but never out handle one my 69 charger would get real light and hard to handle over 100 mph and that was on a empty interstate . but the 77 trans am was a dog ,that was just a movie ,the real car was a slug for power ,it was geared low for a fast take off but had no top end and if you held it at top end you'd blow the engine
 
The '70's cop cars would be faster than most cars of that era.There are a few exceptions but like you said you can't outrun their radios (to a point).There's the Shelby 500 Mustangs with the 427's with superchargers that could outrun the cop cars and the airplanes.
A friend had one and he had five cop cars and two airplanes chasing him for 200 miles. He made the trip in one hour and ten minutes. The only way they got him was to pull four semi's across the Interstate so he had nowhere to go.
They relayed far enough ahead to stop him. Other than that everytime they set us a roadblock, he alreaady had gone by.
They took his car and his license was suspended for 5 years.
