Could someone thoroughly explain the Army's new bootcamp?

I've read a few articles, and what I've basically seen is that now the Army is teaching fewer skills in boot camp and having the men do crunches and shuttle sprints as opposed to teaching many skills and doing long distance runs, pullups, etc. What is the truth behind it? I was wanting to go in as an officer, or possible enlist as a CA, but now with the easier training, I'm not sure at all. I am an avid athlete, and I don't want to end up like my training buddy who went to the Air Force and got out of shape because of their training.

Also, the skills are a big incentive for me to join. I love training and learning new things, but this just sounds borerline insulting.

Thanks for any info.
