As I Stand
There is something missing
From these eyes that I stare
A loss of glimmer, loss of hope
Replaced by black despair.
A smile that does not reach,
Nor wrinkle those eyes with cheer
Empty words like glass orbs drop,
Planting my mind with manic fear.
A step is taken forwards
An arm held out to guide
So innocence, these gestures,
Yet so much I know they hide.
What demons live beneath your skin
That yearn to lash and hurt
Spewing loathsome lies through wicked words
That leave my heart overt.
Who caused the need of learning to throw
The daggers of deceit
To obscure the soul I’d come to love
To drive him to defeat.
A knobbly prod, a watery whisper
A hurtful heckling that’s hissed
The demon, never satisfied,
At its goal will it persist.
Until the day that I can shatter
The malicious mask you’ve made,
And sweep away the memories
Ever wishing the pain will fade.
But you say that you don’t mean it
So again and again I try
To reign the release of rage,
To just let the demon lie.
Now as I stand here gazing back
My eyes return to you
A loss of glimmer, loss of hope
A loss of all I thought I knew.
There is something missing

A loss of glimmer, loss of hope
Replaced by black despair.
