Could someone explain these New Testament verses to me? Why are they so horrific?

Why does God command these things? How can these possibly be sanctified actions?

So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. I WILL STRIKE HER CHILDREN DEAD. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds. (From the NIV Bible, Revelation 2:22-23)

And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters. (Matthew 8:32) - poor pigs!

10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. (Matthew)

Also, how do people explain all the deaths in the Old Testament, including the rape of Midian virgins and the murder of infants in Og and Egypt? And what is with cutting off people's hands and feet and letting them bleed to death from tree-tops during these conquests?

I'm so confused. If the God of the Bible is a God of love, why all the rape, infanticide, and torture, as COMMANDED by their God? Please note: God directly COMMANDS them to do these things.

It is also said that Jesus loves children. Then why does he support killing innocent children, as shown in my verse from Matthew?

Thanks in advance. Just feeling a little nauseous right now.
