Could Marine Officers and Soldier Officers describe their lifestyle?

I am currently deciding which branch to enter into, and subsequently, which OCS to apply to. If you are, were, or are training to be an officer in these branches, could you describe the lifestyle and nuances of the branch?

Also, a few extra questions.

Marines:
1. Is it more difficult to get the MOS you apply for than in the Army? I am aware that joining the Marines means you want to BE A MARINE, but nonetheless I have a particular MOS I want to do- 0530, Civil Affairs under MAGTF.
2. Is it true that the Marine discipline is stricter? If so, this would probably be the branch for me.

Army:
1. Is it true that one (if they are qualified, that is) advances through ranks faster in the Army?
2. Does the extended scale of the APFT put points toward promotion for officers?

Thank you for all your answers. I feel that I should note that this is not a Marines vs. Army thread. I have the utmost respect for both branches.
