Could I have an infection in my surgery wound (anterior cervical discetomy)?

I had a disc replacement at C5/6 just over 5 weeks ago. It was performed through the front of my neck. I saw my surgeon a couple of weeks ago and he wasnt too happy with my wound healing. He said it was ok but it looked like I'd had a reaction to the dissolving stitches as it was a bit more raised than he expected. It was still quite hard and a bit red. He suggested a sillicone gel to reduce the swelling, which I have been using.
Over the last couple of days little white bits have been coming out of it, like little hard bits of pus. It also flared up red again.
I had physio yesterday and I didnt say anything but I saw the physio frowning looking at the scar.I said I'd not been too happy with it and he said he wasn't either. He said it may be bits of stitches coming out but to keep an eye on it for infection.
The redness has gone down a bit today but its now got a dark tinge around the scar, like bruising and it hurts all around the right side of my neck and I generally dont feel too great, like I've maybe got a virus or cold coming. The inside of my throat feels hot and a bit rough.
Temps been between 37 and 37.6 today.
Could it be an infection or more likely a virus coming, and just a coincidence?
