Even if I change character names, change up the plot a bit, reduce characters, change personalities take out elements of the fanfiction, and all that jazz could I still get in trouble? For example, the story became "popular" and people discover it used to be a fanfiction for a particular show/movie/game and the owners decide to enforce copyright onto my book because its characters inspired my story. Could I still get in trouble? Please, I need advice because many people like the fanfiction I wrote and seriously suggest I publish it! What do I do?
