Could I get a contract cell phone in Japan if I'm under 20?

I'm moving to Japan at the end of this scholastic year to continue my education over there, and since I'll be there for more than 2 years I was going to get a full on post-paid cell phone plan, but after doing some research it seems the legal age to sign up for a contract is 20. I'm only 18 (I will be 19 by the time I get moved) and my parents aren't going to be there to sign the contract as my benefactors. Could they sign up for it online somehow so I don't even have to go in to the store? Would they make an exception since I am the legal age to sign a contract here in the US and I will still effectively be a US citizen while I'm over there? I could get a pre-paid phone to use for a year until I'm 20 but I was planning on jumping off the plane and getting a phone right there in the airport and I'd rather not have to deal with having to get a new number after that. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
