Uh.... no. Why would they bother having a new Sonic series come out with Genesis game plots and affects? That's like completley backwards thinking. A TV show isn't going to do that, espically a kids cartoon. I mean the Genesis games didn't even have any real solid plots anyway that haven't already been tapped out by the other Sonic shows. I mean if we were to get a new Sonic show actually competley influenced by just the games and not by updates involving zany cartoon antics (Adventures Of Sonic the Hedgehog) and rock musicals (Sonic Underground) or anime kid conventions (Sonic X) it would be the new games, not the old ones. So no I don't think that will happen. I fact I know that there won't be a new Sonic series about the old games out. You should be lucky if they even consider doing another halfway decent Sonic series again really.
Didn't they already do that with adventures of sonic the hedgehog? I thought it was based on the genesis titles quite well, although they had some differences.
That's just the point: they DID a Sonic series based off the Genesis games; if there's ever going to be a new Sonic series (and if there is, hopefully it will be a vast improvement over Sonic X), it wouldn't feature 16-bit graphics and sound effects. They don't employ those things in the games anymore, so why would they incorporate them into a Sonic show? That would be like taking a step backward.
I hope they do a good one to contemplate for the crapfest that was sonic X. maybe bring back the under-appreciated satAM series that was cancelled in favor of the power rangers, but seeing how today's corperations won't do that,we just need a prayer.
Just to clarify, Sonic SatAM wasn't cancelled "in favor of" Power Rangers, but "in the face of". When it came down to it, one show just decimated the other in ratings... and went on for over 600 more episodes than the other.
Why would Sega allow a series like this just to go backwards in time? As a future animator, however, I would love to do a new Sonic series done like SatAM/the Archie comics with a bigger focus on the Sonic/Sally/Mina love triangle, redifining Shadow, and Knuckles & the Chaotix, though. A dream job of mine that'll never happen.
Putting my initial response to this aside (you wouldn't have liked it), drooling over Power Rangers is relevant to this thread in ways I cannot possibly imagine. I thought mods were supposed to encourage people to stay on topic?
AoStH wasn't, by any means, a well-made show, but it did have some enjoyable moments. Though, to be honest, all of the Sonic cartoons were average at best.
SatAM is gone. You have the DVDs and if you really want a continuation, read the comics. Seriously, why would they revive a show that hasn't been touched in over a decade? About the only fans are rabid furries and people remembering it through rose tinted glasses. It isn't the be all and end all of Sonic, so I wish people would stop bringing it up.
Though I would exclude the show having the 2D style and animation of the Genesis games, I do think a series could work based on the old games. I would love to see a game based on Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Flesh out the story and you have a pretty good cartoon.
