Hi everyone, just joined this forum as I am trying to find a way to fix this reflux thing. I got a virus about a month ago. Same symptoms my workmates were having, slight intermittent fever, headache, cough etc. Very flu-like symptoms. I have had indigestion problems on and off for quite a few years but in the last couple of years I have recognised that this is more than simple indigestion. GP had me on Omeprazole for two months after an Endoscopy revealed inflammation of stomach and duodenum. No other damage to oesophagus etc. The specialist said "Gastritis". Then when I asked if I had "GERD" she said, "Yes, GERD".
Anyway, over the last few weeks my cough has hung on but over the last two weeks, almost every time I cough, I vomit. I mentioned this to my GP who gave me Motillium which seemed to have no effect. I still vomited. The cough was a choking kind of cough and I felt like I was struggling for air. This usually happened when I woke up in the morning or early in the morning.
I took to sleeping with a bucket beside the bed for a week or more but now I have raised my bed by about 10 inches and seems to give some relief.
The curious thing is that the cough seems to be lessening but appears to be triggered by a change in humidity. When I leave the airconditioned room and go outside into the humidity (I live in tropical Borneo) , often I cough and then vomit.
I take ranitidine twice a day. I am watching my diet very carefully and trying to do all the right things for my reflux but that cough is still hanging on. It has lessened in frequency but the vomiting worries me. I haven't vomited so much and so often ever in my life. Before I got the virus I had reflux but had never vomited.
Another curious thing is that after vomiting there is gas, i.e. I always belch gas. But the vomiting/gag relex seems to be triggered by the cough in the back of my throat.
My guess is that the acid is getting to my throat and irritating it. I have also had trouble with my voice for weeks due to this. I'm not sure whether the problem is viral or reflux or both.
Does all this sound familiar to anyone?
