Copyright of NTSC VHS to Region2 DVD conversion

I want to buy an NTSC video from amazon.com in the US with the intention of getting it copied to a Region2 DVD.

Are there any copyright issues which prevent me from doing this?

I do not have an NTSC compatible video player or TV, but do have a multi-region DVD player. (I chose Region2 in case I want also to play this on a non-multi-region DVD player)

AFAIK, with CRAB, a person is allowed to make a copy for personal use as long as they already own the CD. Would this also apply in this case?

As far as I know, I can't see there being too much of a problem with buying an NTSC video tape and converting it onto a PAL dvd disc strictly for your own use. Fair use policy should apply.

However, you say you don't have an NTSC compatible video recorder or tv so the chance of you being able to get anything like a clear, even viewable, picture is highly unlikely. Or it may be that it just plays in b & w, but it won't be much good. I've got a couple of NTSC tapes which play fine for me but when I lent one to a mate who didn't have a compatible system, they didn't play.

Obviously your video must be fairly old as even most of the cheapest video recorders nowadays are capable of handling PAL / NTSC 4.43 tapes.

Actually, now I think about my TV will probably be OK.
The video player is mega old though, and losing colour is not really an issue as it's a black and white film anyway.

Now all I need to do, is find someone/somewhere to get it done.
