Cops, when citizens call in to complain about fireworks noise?

Noise complaints fall under the nuisance ordinances set by your city. Loud and unreasonable noise that "causes a breach of the peace" is citable.

As far as fireworks, the issue there is that they're explosive and can cause injury. The noise takes a backseat to citizen safety.

If it's a licensed display, they'll just take note of it.
Most places, fireworks are illegal or considered enough of a hazard
used by the untrained that casual use will at least be investigated.

Our department does have a passive approach to fireworks, and only respond if a complaint is received or we observe unsupervised children.

Most people know most fireworks are illegal, and respect the fact I'm only responding because a complaint was received.

This year will be worse, because the 4th is on the weekend, so most don't have to work Sunday. There will always be a few people that will not accept the working hours argument.
