I opened this question a few days ago. I am going to re-open it.

While I was driving on the highway last night, I noticed my temp Gage would go from about a quarter to half way...then slowly go back down to a quarter and then back to half way...It kept doing this the whole 10 miles I was on the road. When I got on the side roads going about 40mph, it would do this, but not the extreme as it was on the highway.

I have plenty of coolant, I am not leaking anything major...The truck is 15 years old so occasionally there is a small dark spot, but nothing major. There are no unusual sounds. The head gasket has been replaced and the radiator has been flushed a few times since I have had the truck. I am still getting heat...nothing seems out of the ordinary accept the Gage movement. Also...just to add...The high last night was about 10 degrees.

Any ideas on what this could be?

***I replaced the thermostat last night and it still does this.***

unscrew the temp gauge and using a blow dryer to heat it see how the gauge moves then if that dont work put cardboard in front of the radiator so it dont cool soo fast and make sure the system is full of water by opening the cap and running the car till you see the water fully heat and curculates because it sounds like there is air around the thermistat the air dont let the thermistat heat right

gaude could be going out but my dads ford ranger did that it was radiator hose , we let it run awhile got hot hose callapsed then uncallapsed watch the hose good luck
