if you live up north, go to auto parts store and buy premix, if you live in the south or where its usally hotter than cold, just add some distilled water, water is a better coolant than antifreeze, you need some antifreeze but i live in louisiana so i run 70 water and 30 antifreeze just for in case it does freeze.

I'm a fleet mechanic for local city.... work on those thing all day. just get some of the ford coolant and add till the bottle is full. If the coolant appears dirty, then by all means you'd want to change it, If not... just top it off with the same coolant. good luck, those things are tanks, but they aren't freindly at the gas pump.

I have a 04' Ford Crown Victoria P71, I just bought it used and I wanna do some maintence on it and the coolant level is below the COLD FILL RANGE, so I'd like to know how to do it, should I add more coolant to it, meaning mixing the old and new coolant, will it be fine, or should I best drain it all then add the new coolant to it?
See, I don't even know what type of coolant is in the car, so is it dangerous to mix different types of coolant? The car manual tells me I need 50/50 coolant and distilled water, and tells me to add Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant
(yellow-colored), VC-7–A (U.S., except CA and OR), VC-7–B(CA and OR only), meeting Ford Specification
WSS-M97B51–A1.

Help, I'm lost here.

I agree with jnc623, except it doesn't matter what brand coolant you use. It does not have to be Ford Coolant. Just go to the auto parts store and buy a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze/ coolant, unless you are up north and then you want to run 100% antifreeze/coolant. Fill the tank to the full cold line and start the engine. Let it run for about 10 to 15 minutes and you should start seeing the coolant level drop in the tank. Once it stops going down fill it back up to the full hot line. Drive it a day or two and check it while it's hot and see if you need to add more.

Drain and fill coolant is a waste of time. I would go to a shop and have the cooling system flushed, not drained and filled. And yes you are correct, your car takes Yellow coolant.

Since you just bought the car used, you don't know the condition of the coolant or cooling system. Did you buy it at a city auction? It may have sat in the auction yard for many months before it was released for bid/sale. Have it drained, flushed and pressure checked. Then fill with new coolant per the manufacturer's specs.

Pure 100% anitfreeze will freeze at -10F. Most of the lower 48 states can get by with a 50/50 mix - protects down to -20F. A 60/40 mix (antifreeze/water) will protect down to -70F.
