cool but relatively inexpensive freshwater fish?

i am looking for a freshwater fish, that is cool, exotic but not too expensive. i already have a freshwater flounder, and a bichir, and i live in california so teacup stingrays are not an option. unless someone could refer me to a website that sells them inexpensively. an ideas?
okay i work at a fish pet store so i have seen all the common fish i dont want those. i am looking for ideas of fish i might not know about.
