I want to add some old home movies, that were converted to VHS tape, to Windows Movie Maker. I have a 7 pin S video port on my sound card, and the VCR has 3 RCA connectors. If I get an adapter cable (SVideo.com has them) would that work for getting the video on my disc?

What I had to do was convert the VHS tapes to digital using a VHS player and recording them to a digital camcorder. Then, capture them on the computer from the camcorder.
This is the simple, short answer as it is more detailed than this to do but I figured it out. I bet you can too

No, since the computer S-video port only sends audio and video out. There are USB video capture devices which can usually allow S-video or composite video in, such as http://cgi.ebay.com/External-USB-Video-TV-AV-VHS-To-DVD-Capture-Card-N3_W0QQitemZ350144996018QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Components?hash=item350144996018&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1234|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:0|293:1|294:50
