Converting a turtle tank to a fish tank!?

My sister gave me her 16 gallon tank that she used for her turtles and i want to use it for a fish tank. I'm a little concerned because the tank still smells like to turtles and they did die in the tank. What should I do with the tank before I put fish in it??
 
Normally, whenever any aquatic life dies, one should perform a 50% water change. If the water is still in it, then do that - however if it's not, I do not recommend using any chemicals like bleach or even soap as they are hard to get off. You could use chlorine bleach only if you go down to a hot tub/pool store and purchase chlorine testers, and only use the aquarium if there is absolutely none left - although I don't recommend it.

Try using hot water. If the tank still smells after that, I recommend just soaking it in hot water overnight, though it'll turn cold by the morning. Make sure it's boiling hot at first though, to kill off most of the bacteria in the tank from where they died.

Remember to cycle the tank before introducing fish!
