Forget about asbestos but really consider if it's worth doing .. Lots of work. and will cost a lot too for equiipment and furniture .. I have seen a few conversions, home done ones, and they made me shudder ..Things were not all that secure and in an accident all the gear would come forward to crush the cab and occupants ..Much better to in vest in a second hand proper van I think .. .

If you are converting a van into a camper van what would be the first job that you would do? Also do vans contain asbestos and if so what parts of the van would contain it.

Thanks

As a general rule, it's cheaper to buy a second hand camper van than to convert a second hand van.
If you want to do it yourself, first plan out exactly what you want. The hardest part is fitting the windows so they don't leak and so the van is still secure.
Unless the van is a museum piece (1960s or earlier) the only asbestos you're likely to find is in the brake shoes.

Don't think anyone has ever used Asbestos in a van so don't worry about that.

First thing is of course to plan how you want the end result to look, if you're planning on putting anything that'll need plumbing then you'll need to get the pipework in for that first, as well as getting the electrical wiring in to the right place.

Then you'll need to board the van if it's not already done (screwing plywood to the floor and sides of the van to give you a uniform flat surface that you can then attatch everything else to).

No they do not contain asbestos. First draw a diagram of the layout you want. Install any plumbing, piping and wiring first.
