Controversy In Film (spoilers all over the place)

WARNING - in order to discuss the subject it is highly plot points etc will be discussed, if you don't want to run the risk of knowing something about a film you don't already know I would avoid this post.

Due to having very little money right now and also its cold this afternoon so can't be bothered venturing out of the house I have been catching up on films recently.

One of the films I watched was Elephant (2003). For those who haven't seen it it is a film based around a day in a high school when two students shoot a lot of there fellow class mates. The story is not of Columbine but it might as well be and even though you know what the ending will be if you have done any reading into the film and the subject matter I found myself on the edge of my seat precisely because I knew what was going to happen but I didn't know when it was going to happen.

Last year was the 10th anniversary of Columbine and I count myself very lucky in the knowledge that whilst these things do happen it is very extreme and rare (unless news sites just don't feel it worthy to report any-more) and I don't think that when Gus Van Sant made the film he meant for it to be disrespectful or for that matter glorifying what happened.

Do you think it should have been made? Is there a line where you just don't discuss a subject? Is there any that should not be touched?
