I need a list of plants that are resistant to the type of insects here in Tampa.
I know very little about plants and gardening, but I love plants and I would like to have a container garden outside my apartment.
The last garden I planted grew beautifully until it was ravaged by pests. My mini sunflower grew taller than me in a few weeks, but then it was destroyed by some kind of caterpillar/moth. My celosia quickly became completely infested by tiny black bugs that killed it. The zinnias suffered a similar fate, just not quite as quickly. Marigolds seemed to fare a little better, but the only thing that has really survived is some kind of potted palm that I don't know the name for.
I don't want to use any pesticides because other animals whom I like also visit my plants, like lizards and frogs. I can be consistent with watering as long as I know how much or how often to do it, and I can provide either full sun or partial shade.
The only problem I have really had is the bugs.
So if anyone knows some plants that grow well in containers, like it hot, and are resistant either to bugs period or to the type of bugs in the central gulf coast area of Florida, let's hear about 'em! Thanks!
