Contacts Sync Problem

Hey guys, I've had my G1 for about 3 months now.
Up until now, I have never synced any of my contacts, and when I try to do it now, I get the error "Sync is currently experiencing problems. it will be back shortly".

The weird thing is that all the contacts in my google contacts is syncing to my phone, but none of the contacts on my phone are syncing to google contacts.

Ive read other topics like this but everyone's solution is to wipe the phone. But the reason I want to sync my contacts is so that I can wipe my phone.
Hopefully someone can help me lol

I've had the same problem with my G1l for close to five weeks. I did a hard reset but it never resolved the issue.Don't know what the problem is.

Hi,

I looked into all threads talking about sync issue on Android. And this one seems to be the closest to my problem.

I got my HTC G2 one month ago. I tried syncing, it worked the 1st time then seemed to hang up into infinite loop, never ending the sync process. I decided to turn off autosync. I only kept mail sync. It didn't bother me until today: I decided to sync my contacts, because I entered dozen of new phone numbers into the phone, and I wanted to get them on gmail. I went to "contacts, "menu" then "sync groups". It didn't seem to work (no sync icon), then I went into "settings > data sync > contacts". The sync icon showed up, and my contact list changed after a while. I checked it and couldn't find the new contacts I put on my phone recently. This action has deleted these contacts. It's just like they were deleted because they were not in gmail.

It seems to me that syncing contacts is one way only. It pushes contacts from gmail to the phones, but it doesn't push contacts from the phone to gmail. It is a pity because by doing this, I lost dozen of contacts I entered on my phone. And I will be forced to put new contacts in gmail first then sync, or put new contacts in my phone and never sync...

Did anyone experience the same problem? Is this a limitation? Any solution or workaround?

As far as I know this has always been a problem and no solution has been created yet. I use mybackup to save all my contacts then I have run all kinds of syncing experiments and it is always the same result, my gmail contacts are completely empty so it erases all of my contacts in my phone every time.

Ok that's good to know. Thanks for the status. I'm not using mybackup yet. I ust add new contacts in gmail first then sync my HTC G2. It's a pain but its safe... I'll make some other experiments, and tell you if I found anything new.

I'm having the same sync issues. This has been ongoing for a long time, but never did I care too much until now.
I'm wondering if this is a root bug issue?

I have this problem as well. But it seems that it has worked a couple of times to sync contacts from phone to gmail contacts but it doesn't now.

does anyone know if this has been fixed? or even detected? maybe someone should post an issue on the official android page? http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/
