Did anyone see it on Five last night, I'm sure it was an edited version, doesn't she ask in the film to see who the aliens really are before being sent back.

Were there ever any plans to do a contact 2 seeing as they admit at the end in private that the tape recorRAB 18 hours of static meaning she make contact despite from the earth point of view it all happend really fast.

I did enjoy the fact that they managed to pull off general relativity though and if there were a book based on the '18 minutes of static' I would read it! Also I think Jodie Foster looks pretty hot when she sports that dress! :D

i think that she just wonders why it's her father she see's, and "father" explains it to her .....

i think it's a great fim, more etherial than most on this subject, and yes she does look amazing in that out outfit ..... no wonder matthew "bongos" mcconneghy goes WOW when he sees her :D

as for the end statement ..... that was the kicker

BTW i just posted some good stuff about the film on imdb.com .....

"the seat was not part of the original design, so inevitably broke away during the most stressful time of the flight

arrowhead does not know how long her travels were, but constantine inquires about the amount of static time on tape ..... as kitz it reluctent to give out such info!

oh, and the pod door seals completely due to the inherent design, not just because it's "alien technology" ..... remember it may be alien technology, but it's from earth-based materials! the sealing effect would probably come from the low resonence electromagnetic resonence ALREADY in effect, due to the machine already being started!!

and answering a question elswhere ..... she was never out of the pod, and when she get's to the final stop, there must have been a gigantic electromagnetic force being controlled (hence when she touches the sides, it ripples) so she could have been anywhere ..... on a planet, still in space ..... it was what the aliens wanted her to see!"

Absolute pants this movie....

The script is weak, the movie is tiresome and way overlong, the attraction between foster and matthew (the president's spiritual advisor?) is poor....

A long story/involved story whose conclusion is that Jodie Foster, a scientist comes to have "faith". The whole time she wants to meet the aliens and her search through scientific knowledge, means she has no faith as faith is not a measureable/scientific fact. So she doesn't get to meet the aliens because she doesn't represent earth people as she has no "faith" and 95% of the population do. So she gets sent into space after all, talks with aliens (about nothing other than "hi, how are you? Yeah, we know you're down there on earth") but the earth people don't believe it.

They ask her for proof of her alien-meeting when she never "went anywhere" in their eyes and she has none, therefore she asks them for their "faith" in believing her story. Because she knows, she "believes" she did

Its all okay in the end because religion boy Matthew is there, even though the entire planet's population believes shes a nutter. But suprise, the prosecutor (government investigator) finRAB out the recorder she was wearing has 18 hours of static on it, meaning she WAS gone for 18 hours, but it'll never see the light of day. The end.

The whole journey about aliens/other life is a complete ruse, because when we meet the aliens, they say/do nothing. The characters aren't that likeable and the movie is really long with hardly anything happening.

While its got interesting concepts and has a good story, it gets bogged down in some many ideas, minute details, the story never goes to where you think/want it to go.

At over 3 hours, way too boring, confused and not good enough to really watch again.
