Contact settings

As usual, Jig wrote it better than I did. I have the same settings in quick connect too. And interestingly, if you choose 'none' instead of 'web,' and let that process; when you go back to the Quick Connect screen for that contact, the website actually disappears (making it impossible to select). So you definitely want to leave that on 'web.' I can't explain why this would work for my LD and some TX's but not all. The LD uses slightly older versions of some programs than the TX. Blazer itself is slightly different.

Under Prefs > Connection > Available Connections, do you have any that connect to Phone? I have one named 'Serial to generic GSM' that I think is built in (I can't change or delete it). That's the only connection I currently have to phone, although I previously set them up.

so, jigwashere, did you ever update VersaMNail, or anything else? I have no clue what my version info is for any of the pertinent apps, but if we keep digging, we'll have enough dirt to bury this once and for all.....

On my TX, when I go to Contacts, open a contact and click Quick Connect > Settings, I have an option for Web. I click the dropdown, and the option is Web and -None-. I choose Web. I add a URL to my contact under Web site. Now, when I highlight that conact and right click on the 5-way, I have a list of phone numbers, an email address, and a web address to select. I scroll down and select the web address, Blazer opens....and in my case that's about it since I don't have WiFi set up.

I was wondering if there might be an update that, if applied, would make the TX or your Treo, hal, work as desired. I seem to recall discussion about an update to VersaMail that impacted PIM apps, and Blazer (my Disclaimer: my memory is getting worse and worse, so......)

Hal, thanks for the clarification! The TX works like the Treo in that all I can do is edit when I tap on the Web site field in Contacts.

Varjak means "tap" on the web address itself.

VERY valid disclaimer. Doesn't work in my Treo. Tapping on the web address in a contact only opens the entry for edition, and once there trying again on the web address only fixes the text bar on the web address field, selecting it for edition. Happens like in the oldest Palm OS devices. One more feature that makes the LifeDrive a one of a kind model.

Not clear what you mean by "select it with your stylus" part. I enter the web address in the Web site section in Contacts and save the contact. When I open up the contact again how do I "select it" with my stylus?

Ixchel, I had never explored this before; but here's how it works on my Lifedrive:

Make sure you've entered a website for your contact in the website field, NOT the e-mail field. And save the contact (or re-save it). (If you have the website in your e-mail field, you'll go to Versamail.)

Re-access the contact and the website address should appear. Simply select it with your stylus and you'll get taken to Blazer and the website. (You may have to select 'turn WiFi on' in a dialogue box, depending on how you set up your TX.) No need for 'Quick Connect' or its settings at all. It actually works quite well. Kudos for Palm.

NOTE: This is how it works on my Lifedrive. Your TX may be a bit different.

for whatever half-brained reason, that part of the TX software assumes that only if you are BT connected to a phone could you possibly connect to the internet. why it totally ignores Blazer and built-in wifi, I don't know, unless it is just software for earlier PDAs that was not updated for the TX/Lifedrive, both of which have built-in wifi.

Thanks for your reply. I had seen what the manual said about settings and was curious why when I tried it on my TX I wasn't getting a choice of selecting Blazer for the Web setting. Strange.

I am looking for help in how to set up my Contacts settings to associate a web page with a contact. After I go to ?Quick Connect? in Contacts and then click on ?Settings? and get to the ?Settings? page, I am unable to select Blazer as a Web option. All I get is ?None Available? with no pick list to choose from although I have Blazer on my pda. How do I get Contacts to "see" that Blazer is on the pda and show it as an option to select.
