Constant stomach ache - is this really caused by acid?

Hello, I've had pretty much constant stomach ache for 4 months now - a dull, burning pain that only doesn't bother me when I'm eating or sleeping. Have had had endoscopy (clear) and am negative for h pylori. Dr is treating me for excess acid because it is often accompanied by heartburn and sensation of something stuck in throat. 7 wks of 20mg omeprazole have pretty much taken care of the last two symptoms but, if anything, the stomach ache is worse. So fed-up with it, could acid really be causing so much stomach pain. Scope showed no reflux damage and I don't have the classc reflux problem of not being able to lie flat? Maybe I need a different PPI?

Hi Blettuce:

I was told by the GI doctor who performed by endoscopy that certain PPI's can cause stomach pain. I experienced almost constant stomach pain when I took Prilosec. I did not experience stomach pain on Aciphex. I don't know why one PPI would do this and not another if they all supposedly work in a similar fashion. You may want to ask to be switched to a different PPI just to see if the stomach pain goes away.

Thanks Rosebloom, the thing is, I'm pretty certain it's the same stomach ache that kicked this whole episode off 4 months ago - now it's just more protracted. What I find strange is that I don't often find stomach pain listed as a symptom of excess acid yet it's my most bothersome problem and my Dr continues to treat me as an acid sufferer.
