Constant hunger pains no matter what I eat?

For the past few months, I've been getting really bad hunger pains on and off, no matter what I eat or how hungry I am. For the past week I've had them almost 24/7, and I've eaten loads to try and get rid of the pains - they tend to go when I eat but then 10 minutes later they are back again. It's got to the point where I can't tell if I'm genuinely hungry and most of the time I am eating every hour or more frequently, as I hate this feeling and I am trying to get rid of it by eating. However this is making me eat about twice the amount I would normally eat, and I am really worried that I'll gain weight at the rate I'm going!

Does anyone know what this could be or have had something similar? I have IBS (Irritable Bowel) so I'm assuming it's related to that, however with IBS I normally get problems lower down in my abdomen, whereas this pain is coming from my stomach in the center of my chest. As well as the hungry feeling, if I get the feeling and then don't eat for a while, I get really loud stomach rumbles which makes me think I'm really hungry, even if I've eaten a fairly large meal an hour beforehand. I looked on the internet at people thinking it might be gas or stomach ulcers so I was thinking about going to the doctors if it persists but I don't know how useful it will be. I've tried taking Gaviscon (chalky medicine for heartburn and indigestion) and it works slightly however I can't take them all the time as they are expensive and probably not healthy to take them often. I don't eat particularily gassy foods and I'm already quite careful about my diet because of my IBS, but I am eating proper meals and snacking quite a lot so it's nothing to do with the amount I'm eating.

I would appreciate if anyone knows what this could be! Thanks :)
