I have been constantly dizzy for about two months. The dizziness ranges from mild to severe but my balance always seems to be "off." I have one to two episodes per week where my dizziness increases and my energy goes to zero. When this happens it is difficult to make normal body and head movements without considerable effort. Also, my speech slows down and often I must deliberately THINK to come up with the next word I want to say. I don't necessarily slur my speech, but it is very slow and weak. It feels like I am drunk. I am always aware of my surroundings and what is going on but become very slow. Twice both of my arms and hanRAB have become nurab and tingly along with my tongue and front of my neck. The first episode lasted about 20 minutes then I began to recover. The second time I felt pretty severe symptoms for about 30 minutes but did not fully recover for about 3 hours. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to when I have these episodes. I can be standing, sitting, fasting, eating, etc. I have gone through EKG, CT scan, lots of blood work, and a glucose tolerance test and everything comes back fine. Paramedics took my blood sugar during one episode and my doctor took my blood sugar during an episode during a doctor visit. Both times it was 100. There is no history of anything like this in my family and I am at a loss, as is my doctor. I am a 43 year old male with no significant health issues...until this one of course! any ideas?

azknoll: Go see an endocrinologist and get a full work-up done on your adrenal and endocrine system. Get tested for MS, too. What's your diet like? Is it healthy? Do you drink diet sodas? You might need to have some neurological testing done too to see if there's anything in your brain going haywire. You could be having TIA's or seizures. Get an EEG and an MRI done. Don't just rely on you PCP for help. Go see the specialists and get to the bottom of it.

92261: My diet is fairly healthy and even though I drink diet sodas, I normally drink water, Powerade Zero and coffee with Splenda. I do not believe I drink a lot of the Powerade or coffee though. I am scheduled to see my PCP in two days but have been thinking about seeing a specialist. I just didn't know which type of specialist I needed to see. I think my health insurance is accepted at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. I would imagine that would be a good place to start?

Hi...absolutely STOP the artificial sweeteners. asap.
So make sure they check your vitamin D and B12

Have you recently cut out carbs?

I agree with checking out your endocrine system.....drinking artificial sweeteners can increase your insulin levels...free-flowing insulin can definitely have an impact on one's entire body, etc.

Mayo would be an awesome place to start...please keep us posted!

azknoll: I have an article about aspartame that I saved and it says: This carcinogenic substance enters the brain even more quickly through the consumption of candies, mints, and chewing gums. It breaks down into formaldehyde. It's worse than depleted uranium. It causes cancer, blindness, migraines and grand mal seizures.

You make the choice now. It's your body.

Thank you 92261 and quincy. I did not realize that the artificial sweeteners were so dangerous. I will stop consuming them right now. I will discuss what I have learned from the posts I have received with my doctor tomorrow and hopefully find something out soon. Thank you very much!
