Constant aching feeling in the bone in my left arm?

I'm going to call my Doctor today and see about either a appt. w/ him or see if he will just order the test, he's pretty good about somethings and will just order a test if I feel something really needs looked at.

This pain is just getting worse and worse, what is really weird is about a couple months back I went to him because it felt like pain was right down into the bone in my leg, which is the right leg, plus it feels like there is tight rubber band around my ankle and he couldn't really find the issue, that is what my arm feels like, but it is the opposite side. My personal opinion is that my doctor is stuck on his dx from years ago and seems to think all health issues relate to that and I am beginning to think that more is stemming off from that causing all this increased pain. I am already on Vicoprofen and Duragesic patches and the pain just keeps getting worse and worse......Hopefully he finds the answer and it is something that is easily taken care of....

considering the very strong meds you are on and you state the pain is getting worse just really ups that need to have that spinal fully checked out. considering everything you have told me, getting an actual FULL spinal contrasted MRI really would show the whole spinal area down to your cord, and that just IS what needs to be seen right now espescially since you have already had problems Dxed that just are progressive in nature. its just the way most spinal problems are over time, they progress further and casue more symptoms and possible problems and pain.

what you described as that banded feeling or 'perception" in that ankle and also your arm, can actually be stemming from some level of real spinal cord compromise. the things that i felt from only having the radiculopathic symptoms of a herniated c spine disc were VERY very different than the more 'perceptionary" types of sensation/feelings/also called noxious stimuli i was having from just having a vascular glob sitting inside my spinal cord did to me. cord involvement just makes you 'feel' things that at times feel like 'something' is actually being "done' to your body kind of thing? while radiculopathy can create what are called parasthesias, which can also kind of feel that way too, you would know what i am talking about with the exact "perceptionary" type crap if you felt it or were having it go on to your body. it is just THAT strong and totally insane to have to feel that crap. for two years i had, under my right shoulder blade really really intense feelings of solid pressure just pushing out from under it, like the alien baby was trying to push its way out?? this also had another lovely perception that felt EXACTLY like someone was standing behind me with a pry bar trying to actually try and pry off that shoulder blade from my body. it was just this constant and non stop 24/7 perception of real prying and torqueing goin on there that almost drove me insane. the only way i could get rid of this is if i went to a nice solid wall and litterally just ground that whole blade into it and held it there. then and only then did this stop. but of course as soon as i moved away,it was ALL right back again. this was all a perceptionary thing not "real" at all. and just from my spinal cord affectation.

but i really seriously would just tale to your primary at this point to obtain that referal for a full contrasted MRI of that whole spinal area, top to bottom, just considering past history and current symptoms you are experiencing. at least this way,you or your doc wont have any question about anything possibly lower than your c spine maybe at some point being an issue. this also would set a baseline so you would just already know what was and was not there in 2009,ya know what i mean? like i mentioned, spinal problems are just mostly progressive in nature depending upon what the real underlying issue is. but do get this one test done. that will dictate what does or does not happen next. you just really need to know whats up along that whole area down to your cord level. an x ray just barely scratches the surface of whats underneath down to the cord and spinal nerve levels. hopefully there is not something major in there, but you most definitely have something going on that just IS more neuropathic here or you just would be able to obtain real relief with those duragesic patches. good luck and please do keep me posted. Well I just went to the doctors yesterday and he is ordering a x ray on the neck and upper spine, and if he doesn't see much there, he wants a MRI, which was done several years ago and needs done now.....He says it could be a ruptured disc, in which can be surgically fixed as where as my low spine is not a option for surgery...He agreed it is not the carpal tunnel either beings where the pain is radiating to in my left arm.

We didn't want to add anymore medications being I complain now of feeling tired, but he has decided to try and give the anti-depressants another try and see if that helps being stress induces pain. I believe it is called "effexor", I haven't picked it up yet so not for sure.....the muscle relaxers he gave me make me feel so icky that I don't like taking them and the ones that did work my insurance won't cover...But, hopefully they find something and it gets fixed tired of my arm aching and this constant headache and the tightening feeling in my neck.....well just wanted to give a brief update, when I get my x rays back I will inform more......

Please don't just jump in and have surgery if the x ray or MRI reveal an abnormality in your spine. As I said in my post my arm ached when I was in my early 20's, I'm now 56 and manage to keep it under control with conservative treatments. Make sure you know exactly what is wrong and all your treatment options. Surgery should only be considered as a last resort. I've also taken Effexor for anxiety and depression, while it did help those conditions the side effects and then getting off it were a nightmare. I guess I'm jumping the gun here, wait and see what your scans reveal.....

I will be anxious to hear what your outcome is. I've had the same pain in my arm for a few years. I went to an orthopedic surgeon and he did an USound on my shoulder and found spurs, a torn rotator cuff and arthritis. I had surgery and my arm seemed to quit hurting for awhile. It's now been 1 1/2 years and the pain came back about a year ago. I decided I just have to live with it because I can't afford to go chasing my pain trying to figure out what's causing it. My insurance only covers 50% of an MRI and I know they can be quite expensive. The way you describe your pain is exactly like mine. I also have a very stiff sore neck and back. I'm 53 years old and walk like I'm much older when I first get up in the morning.

Please let us know your findings and what they recommend you do for it.

Thank you
