from our mistakes? Will they design buildings in a more conservative way and leave land for animals and plants?
Are people telling them this? Or will countries always stay the way they are with not as much technology and smaller houses?

Have you ever learned from other people's mistakes? Me neither. I don't even learn from my own. Actually, I find that most traditional housing is quite well suited to the region. The problems come when you try to adopt some other area's technology.

Old saying: "A normal person learns from his mistakes, but a wise person learns from others' mistakes."

We can hope that a combination of wisdom, new opportunities, incentives and constraints will lead to more intelligent development in other nations. However, there's an unfortunate correlation between poverty and environmental degradation which must be addressed. When people are desperate to survive, they aren't concerned about aesthetics, conservation, or pollution. Hence, mountains of high-tech garbage are burned in west African nations by people who don't mind breathing the toxic fumes because we in the developed nations are willing to pay them to relieve us of our guilt for being wasteful materialists who only pretend to care about our environment.
