Considering the iphone?

Okay so finallymy upgrade is up and i have my eyes on the iphone. however does the 8gb have a decent amount of memory for apps and songs? or would it just be wise to go for the 16gb even though its a hundred dollars more? double the memory double the price i guess. Also if anyone can give me pointers since ive never had one before that would be awesome. thanks so much
