Considering purchase of T3...

one bad skylark

I have been a very happy Handera 330  user for several years now. Unfortunately, it is finally giving up the ghost - screen has a dime sized black area and the speaker is dead.

The T3 appears most like my HE330, but I am having trouble forking over the $$. The T|E is very attractive and much less expensive. I am having a hard time deciding which to purchase.

Does anyone here have experience with the HE330? I have often used my 330 for recording small meetings (poor sound quality, but understandable), will this be possible with the T3? Has anyone used Mapopolis with the T3? Datebook 5? Any recommendations for backing up data to the SD card? How about preferences of aluminum hard cases for the T3?

As you can see, I am searching for a reason to jump to the T3, just worried about taking the plunge.

We're having a brawl on here about Iambic Agendus and the constant upgrade charges, however AGendus on a T3 with landscape is super. Datebk5 is preferred by many and that will be great too.

As far as backup, jkware's CardBackup is the absolute best by a mile in my opinion.

The voice recorder on the T3 is quite good for a little hard disk, but you'll use up Memory card space fast on a meeting longer than a few minutes. Be prepared to get at least a 256MB (my preference, Panasonic) or even a 512MB if you're recording longer meetings.

The T3 had its quirks and still does to some extent, but I don't believe any more than another PDA. I also considered the Tungsten E, and if $$$ is your main concern that's a good one. The T3, however, is just fantastic in my opinion and I've tweaked mine "pretty good." It's held up to a lot and has had 2 hard resets, neither of which were the "from the factory" unit's fault.

...both with this response and in many of your other posts. These boards are a great resource. The Handera board helped me tremendously when I was new to that unit.

I spent quite a while last night browsing through the many posts here. Very informative, especially about Jack Flash and Sprat etc. Also some of the patches that should be installed to solve/forestall any issues that have plagued others. I was more than reassured, and have already ordered the T3 from Amazon as well as a Simpletech SD card.

I am looking into getting some sort of battery backup or extender - possibly the unit made by PalmOne or the 4AA battery one on EBay. Has anyone heard any pros/cons on either unit - other than the obvious size advantages of the PalmOne unit?

Has anyone had any experience with Mapopolis and the T3? The mapopolis site seems to state that a beta is in the works for the T3, but it was not very clear. I saw some negative comments regarding the Mapopolis, but nothing that talks directly to its usability with the T3. I myself really like that product. I have an outstanding email to them on this topic.

Re Datebook vs Agendus, I tried Agendus a few years ago with my HE330 and the compatibility was not good. Datebook has been great for me and I would have to join the brawl on the side of DB5, if only because of the experience and data already entered.

Thanks again for your help, and the many great posts by many others on this board!
