Considering Nokia 8801

Hello all!

New to the boards and looking to buy a Nokia 8801.

I want a quality phone that looks good, is built well and can meet my needs. I'm not interested in a phone jammed with features. The 8801 has more than enough for what I'll be doing.

I currently own a Motorola RAZR V3c and am currently under contract with Bell Mobility. The 8801 is GSM so I'll have to change providers.

Before I drop the green for this beauty, I have a few questions for the experts.

1. Can I buy this phone directly from Nokia?

2. If so, will it come with a carrier/contract or unlocked?

3. If not, where is a good place to buy it?

4. Is it a bad idea to buy this phone considering it's two years old?

If I can get the phone unlocked, I will likely go with Rogers Wireless. My Bell phone doesn't have a SIM card so I'll have to pick one up from Rogers and have them hook me up.

Money is not a problem, but I'm willing to shop around for a good price.

1. Yes you can.
2. No, you are buying just the phone itself at its MSRP.
3. T-Mobile used to carry it, but not anymore. You can get the 8801 for a slightly cheaper price from dealers like in Chinatown (but since you're in Canada, I don't see that as a problem looking for such dealers), where the phone will come with activation. One thing to remember, though, is that places like this tend to have a very shady warranty if ever the device would faulter. I'd just recommend you getting a relatively cheap phone that comes with a package deal through new activation, sell the phone, and use the profit that you made to put it towards a 8801.
4. Nope. The 8801 is still a good phone. Very sturdy and an attention getter. Some actually prefer still using their 8801 over the new 8600 Luna.

I plan on just buying the phone and having Rogers activate it for me.

I just wanted to make sure it's still available through Nokia and that I'm not buying an obsolete phone. The 8600 LUNA is nice but I love the look and feel of the 8801.
