I am looking onto moving from FL. I have just sold my home and have no real ties here any longer and am looking for a fresh start. I have two children who are teen and preteen boys and I am a teacher. I am certified to teach special needs children and love dealing with younger ages. I want someplace that is low key but not to rural, but do not want to be in a large city. I also want to be in close proximity to shopping. FLorida has gotten way too expensive and the salaries for teachers stinks. I have looked primarily in GA and also have done some looking in OH and NC (some family in those areas) but just not sure. I am looking for suggestions on areas that might fit what I am looking for and still be an easy adjustment or similar pace to what we are used to here in FL. Will miss the beach but.....ready for change.

I believe your conflict will not be fully solved in any state at this time, since salaries generally stink for the cost of life we are now facing. Did you check the other states' tax regulations? Florida is still one of the best in this case since you don't pay state taxes, and it's still one of the cheapest.

Generally, states "better" or more crowded than Florida would be worse.

At this time, the only place I can think of, but I believe it will not be much longer since an exodus of people are going there, is Texas.

North Carolina had its time but now things are not looking good for jobs I have checked that unemployment in NC is around 10%, not much better than FL.

What about considering moving within FL to another city or area, for example if you are from South Florida you can consider the Tampa Bay Area, or Ocala/Gainesville, or Jax.

If you want a very different environment but still be in the state you can consider the panhandle.

Georgia is not that different from FL and you have to pay state taxes.

Ohio is pretty much screwed at this time.
