"Tory Anger As BBC Refuses To Fire Sir Alan"

"The Conservatives have complained to the BBC's governing body over the decision to let enterprise star Sir Alan Sugar continue on The Apprentice"

am i missing something here or is this a bit dramatic to complain?

thx

That's right, although the present government consists entirely of comedians, it is against the BBC charter that they should employ an entertainer who is also a government minister or someone who they have placed in a senior position of their political hierarchy.
No wonder it's called Brown's Broadcasting company.

Perhaps the Tories should direct their 'righteous' anger in a more appropriate direction, namely, anger at smears, lies and corruption in Parliament. I trust they are not trying to 'duck' out of it by distracting people with any old story to take our minds off the shocking lack of integrity among MPs and ministers.

Since when has the BBC been impartial? The politically influenced and biased media frequently indulge in smears and lies aimed at the BNP, while the BNP are not given sufficent opportunity to respond. This is a situation reminiscent of a Third World regime, not a so-called democratic First World nation.

I wonder if they would complain so loudly if Carlton Communications, Cameron's old stomping ground now merged with Granada to form ITV plc, were employing Sugar.

Anyway, I thought the Tories were all for injecting a bit of entrepreneurial spirit into public corporations. Or is Sugar the wrong kind of entrepreneur coming from a working class background and not being public school educated?

It appears to be pernickerty headline grabbing and I agree they're being dramatic but i guess they have a tiny point.
Their argument seems to be that as S'ralan is a TV personality, it would be a conflict of the BBC's code of impartiality to have him in the government, albeit in an advisory role. It seems OTT. Surely they have better things to complaing about? Floating Duck houses for example, moats that need cleaning?
If the Tories are so offended by this, will they ask Michael Portillo to withdraw from 'This Week'?

Complaining seems to be one thing they are good at. It's a shame they don't put so much effort into making some policies. I notice they didn't complain when Boris Johnson was on Have I Got News For You. The apprentice isn't biased towards any party and the Cons should just get over themselves.

i wonder why they have not complained over the foreign office's involvement in setting up the BBC Persian service...
