Connect ipod to car help?

i have a alpine cda 9820xm stereo and i have a cord that connects to the av cables in the back. it works but the volume control doesnt on my alpine. it only works with the ipod volume. i need help so it plays loud and the volume on the stereo is in controlable instead of the ipod
