Congratulations Lisa Simpson!

In the Simpsons episode Lisa's wedding from 1995 (which takes place in the future and, as the title reveals, tells the story of when Lisa is about to get married), it is shown on the wedding invitations that the ceremony is held on August 1, 2010. In other words, today!

Yeah, that's true. But it IS a happy day for Simpsons fans, since today is the day when one of the best episodes in the series happens!

It's kind of horrifying that a show featuring an episode with a flash-forward episode set fifteen years later has actually survived to see said date.

Also, none of the events in the episode came to pass. Not even the "40 classic Jim Carrey films" festival, as Jim Carrey has only starred in 30-some films to date.

Well, OK, the "picture phone" happened. But that's it.

Easily the biggest tragedy to come of all this.

A Jim Carrey film festival is easily more entertaining than modern Simpsons.

it really is amazing that the simpsons managed to make it to this date, even if the the show isnt nearly as good as it used to be. quite an achievement.

Okay, I was wondering why Lisa Simpson was trending on Twitter and was also shown as a trending topic on Yahoo, I thought maybe they were killing her character off or something, but now I know why.

Congratulations Lisa Simpson, I always knew you would make such an ugly bride! :p

Amusingly, when "Lisa's Wedding" was released, Jim Carrey was primarily known as a wacky comedy star mostly known for talking with his butt. If only the writers had any idea that Jim would branch out into more dramatic roles ("The Majestic", "The Truman Show", "Eternal Sunshine") years later. Kinda funny, in retrospect.
