congestion and the life span of allergies

Hi everyone
I have been suffering from sinus,rhinitis,hayfever,eausachian tube dysfunction and bronquitis now for over 20 years, my doctor says its allergies but gee it never goes away,surelly an allergy would go away sometime
The only thing i use is ventollin for the asthmary feeling that accompanies these illnesses, weather affects my overall allergies and rain causes my ears to block,throat to restrict and congestion to become a lot worse when i had a spirometor my lung function was above average and also xray showed lungs clear and yet im always congested. I am 54 year old and sick of allergies and their life span.lol
any ideas?

All depenRAB on what you are allergic to. Dust mites never go away so if you are allergic to them, you'll always have problems. Is there some reason you don't take antihistamines, haven't done allergy shots, etc? Have you ever been tested to determine exactly what you are allergic to?
 
Dear Starlight, Wow I feel for ya! I am right there with you! I was just sitting here tonight thinking...well actually feeling sorry for myself. I have been so miserable for weeks with my allergies. They seem to be extra bad this year. It's my fault that I haven't done my allergy shots this year. It would have made a difference and at least made my suffering more tolerable. I am congested beyond belief! Watery eyes, itching face and nose and also the top of my mouth inside itches. If I take my allergra, benadryl and sudefed I suffer all the side effects that come with those. But I do it anyway. It's still out of control! I am allergic to over 30 things. Anything green outside, dust mites, mold, dogs, cats and some fooRAB. Ugh!

The one thing I will tell you that I have read is that perimenopause and menopause actually make allergies worse. Some people who don't have allergies will develope them during menopause. Mine seem to have gotten a bit worse. I am in my early 40's and its just one of those things I am gonna have to deal with. I feel for you. I would recommend the allergy shots. They really do help alot. They build up your immunity to the things you are allergic to. Good luck! Hang in there!:angel:

Yes i was tested for allergies. I am allergic to cats dogs cows, certain trees and shrubs housedust mite . they did a bloodtest that showed allergies to these things but the doctors did not tell me which one was causing my allergies
I have 2 cats ,no dogs . we do have cattle but i have had allergies for a long time,before the cats ,the cows etc

Hmmm...well...they can't tell which one causes a reaction at that moment unless it is the only allergen you are around at the time it occurs. In other worRAB, if they put you in sterile room with dust mites and you have a reaction, then it was the dustmites. It seems to be that with the allergies you have and your lifestyle, immunotherapy (allergy shots) would be the way to go. The serum would be mixed for all your allergens in order to give you the best method to become desensitized to them.

Zyrtec (reactine/cetirizine whatever it is called there) could also be helpful as it is good for animal allergies.

Are shots not available in Australia?
 
yes you can have shots in Australia, but it seems that allergies are blamed for everything here
My sister had 20th century allergies and had to stop eating nearly everything, could not be near perfume paints, onions etc etc,this made her life a living hell and she got sicker after the allergy diagnosis as she practically stopped eating and could not go anywhere because of all the allergies, so you see i am a little sceptical of allergy testing
My sister has overcome most of her allergies over the years but in my opinion the doctors made her sicker by the treatment they recommended.

I do but I rarely have any allergy related asthma problems. It's very well controlled and a pretty mild version as well.

I've never heard of "20th century allergies." Must be a down under term....
 
yes it is a down under term ,it means she is allergic to everything
