I recently I read a book called straight a student by cal newport, on study advisement. In his book, he presented a method for studying technical courses(physics, math, engineering). He said the key is to record as many sample problems in class with detailed explanations, instead of focusing on ideas. I don't know whether to accept this advice or not. I know focusing on examples instead of ideas can be damaging if different problem appear, that aren't covered in the notes. Can someone comment on this. Also can anyone recommend a suitable way of remembering what you read? thanks
