Confusing student behavior and how to deal..?

I am a high school teacher and over this past year I have gotten to know one of my former students very well. (She is a senior now and I taught her when she was a sophomore) She is very friendly and very sociable however I find that she sometimes seems to have trouble controlling her curiosity. She is a very inquisitive girl that loves to poke around at things and sometimes take things apart. However it is this drive and excitement she has that sometimes lands her in trouble. I have talked to her about it and she honestly admits that she does not try to break things, but rather, gets so engrossed on something and how it works or is made that she does not even think about the consequences of her actions. I know that she had been diagnosed with ADD which I assume is part of the problem. Like I said she is a very smart girl with lots of potential and who plans on becoming a high school teacher. I am just at a loss on how to understand/control her unending excitement and curiosity.
