I have a question for the board. I see that most people who have had discectomies usually need a second surgerey. What is the sucess rate of this kinda surgerey. Is there anybody who have had success after this kinda surgerey.I just think its a waste, Back surgerey is a serios surgerey. So if anybody can answer please do. And if there is anybody who had sucess after a discetomie please respond.

I had a microdiscectomy to repair a herniated disc that was displacing and impinging a nerve root causing a lot of pain. I couldn't stand up straight because of it. AfterwarRAB I can stand up straight without pain because of the herniated disc (because it's not herniated anymore). I have other back problems like degenerative disc disease and SI joint problems so I still have other pain, but the surgery was a success and did what it was supposed to do. If only that was my only source of pain it would have been reduced from an 8 down to about a 2 or 3.

I've seen quotes for success rates from 75-90%. About 5% from what I've read reherniate the disc.

It all depenRAB on what your situation is. Compared to a fusion it's much less invasive, has a much shorter recovery time and a higher success rate.
