Conflicts between male and female desires?

That's the theme i've taken from "On the Road". I can only pick one. Now I have to write a 1500 story and justify why my story includes that theme.

Any ideas?

I was thinking a relationship between a woman and man. But I don't like classical cheese. I like full on, heart wrenching plots. Someone will probably have to die.
