Confirmed outtage in So. Cal. / LA / San Diego . . .

Man this isn't good. I might have to go and return the phone if this doesn't start working. Good thing I decided to go with a temp number and didn't port my Sprint line. We'll see what happens this weekend.

Back On Line!! System Reset

Califorina users will awake to find many of the "California problems" regarding UMA, resolved this morning. T-mobliel is back on line in many areas. It is recommended that you do a reset of the router unit itself, and a "hot reset" or . . . pull the battery when the 8320 handheld unit is on. Wait one minute, then re-insert the battery. Be sure to reset the Router FIRST.

I've noticed threads that are sometimes asking qestions that touch in this question of "reset" in various ways. Due to the large variety of routers users employ, there is no absolute "fix every router problem there is" method. But a good way to start is as follows:

In the following order:

1. Press the reset button of the Router for at least ten seconds.
2. Turn Router off. (pull the plug) Next . . .
3. Pull battery on the hand held while the unit is "ON."
4. Wait several minutes.
5. Turn Router back on, run through the various settings for your particular model of router. (Remember T-mobile recommends WEP security, although I've been able to make it work with WAP)
6. Place the battery back in the hand unit.

Hopefully, Bingo! (Give it a few minutes - it's not "immediate").

This is how it SHOULD appear if your properly utilizing WI-FI. A clear and concise explanation of the upper and lower case UMA / uma, EDGE /edge, and WI-FI (bold / non-bold), GPRS and GSM is in the manual for the 8320 on pages 20 and 21.

That's it. My current setup is a T-Mobile Router, with a number of things attached downstream. IP is being autoconfigured for at least 5 items.

Hope this helps some people. That's it!

And for the non-UMA users among us:

Los Angeles -- Plain old BB-as-tethered-modem service has been DOWN all night: it would get as far as "verifying..." but never register on the network.

I got it back at about 6 a.m. Not clear if it was necessary but I reset both my laptop [cold boot] and the BB [battery pull].

You can rest the modem as well.

In my case it made no difference.

Again, there are so many different modem/router options, it's a bit of an experiment and see thing.

Most of the time, unless you have a custom setup (domain, Specific IP config., etc) you modem will rest to the default IP provided by your intenet access service provider).

Unpluging the modem won't hurt anything, and in some circumstances, may clear the modem logs, cache, whatever. There are a ton different modems out there. 99% of the time, it's best to uplug and then gradually plug all things back in.

Sorry that I'm not knowledgeable to hit all the modem issues. But I doubt it will do any harm.

This is a great thing. Yesterday all day I had no UMA went to bed at 2 and still no UMA. Woke up and UMA full bars. Hopefully there aren't any more problems that will kill the service for a whole day. I really want to port my regular mobile number but that outage scared me.

I live in Rolling Hills Estates... Nice to know someone on rabroad around my neighborhood.

But no matter what cell company you have, signal sucks up here on the hill!
