Concert-lighting photography?

Hi, what's the best way to take photographs with an SLR in the "concert-lighting" setting i.e., quite dark with colored lights on the stage? I've tried ISOs at all kinds of speeds and wide open shutters to no avail. Is there any way to get nice, crisp pictures of the artists (who tend to move around a lot!) in such a dark setting?

I have a Canon Rebel 35mm, so I can't experiment during the actual shooting.

Thanks!

The stage lighting is incandescent, so be sure to set your white balance to that setting.

Take a light reading of the stage lighting and make a record of it.

When shooting the concert, be sure you are shooting in the aperture priority mode. This will assure that your shutter speed will be at its highest to reduce the chance of blur due to camera movement. The meter reading you took earlier, will help you keep track of how close the exposures are to the metered one you took.

When shooting, make sure that the shutter speed is high enough and if it isn't, up the ISO.

EDIT

Okay now that we know you are using film, choose high-speed tungsten film and trust your cameras meter. You will still want to shoot in the aperture priority mode so you can shoot at the highest possible shutter speed.
