concerned sis about narcoleptic, broke, brother

My 36 year old brother lives with my mom and has been unemployed for some time. My husband and I (I am his sister) have finally deduced that he has narcolepsy. Luckily he doesn't have a car to drive right now. My mother is broke and is not very pro-active in helping him because he's not a very appreciative person. He was very difficult (sometimes flat out rude) to deal with while in and out of the hospital. He already has huge doctor bills from those couple of stints in the hospital where they "couldn't find anything wrong with him". He was poked and prodded for every test possible, and would NEVER voluntarily go back to the hospital. WHERE DO I TURN TO HELP MY BROKE, MEAN, NACOLEPTIC BROTHER?? IS THERE ANY WHERE HE CAN GO TO GET FREE HELP?? (Tag words: narcolepsy, no insurance, free medical help, public assistance, )
