Computer Question about Files transfer from computer to USB/ Flash Drive.?

when i accidentally transfer a file (that is currently open) from my computer to my usb flash drive, it automatically deletes the file without my notification, and nothing is saved and i lose all my files from my computer.
whats up with that? and is there way to recover those files?

I have a Kingston 4GB Flash Drive.
 
If you move a file from your computer to flash drive, a message ought to pop up, asking whether you want to replace your old file with the new one, given that you previously saved it.

Don't understand why your file is being deleted unless your system is corrupted or the settings from either your flash drive or computer were changed.

The only way you can recover your file is if you saved it under a different name. Assuming you used Word as your word processing program, it automatically saves a temporary draft of your file until you save it under a filename or if you try to close Word and it asks whether you want to save it or not.
