Computer freezes & speakers make weird noises?

Okay.
This has been going on for a few months. My computer will randomly freeze, but as it freezes my speakers make a static sound. The only way I can continue using my computer is by holding down the power button and restarting.
It does not matter which programs I am using, it will freeze some point at time. I do not think it is a heating issue because sometimes when I turn my computer on, it freezes and restarts on it's own immediately.
I am running Windows XP Service Pack 3 and as far as I know, all of my drivers are updated.
